Naples
The city of Naples is located almost centrally located on its gulf, between the Vesuvius and the volcanic area of Phlegraean Fields in a scenario called "the most celebrated and beautiful in the world."
Its vast artistic and architectural heritage is protected by UNESCO, whose commissions have included since 1995 the historical center of Naples between the sites of world heritage.
It was founded in the 9th and 8th centuries BC by Greek colonists on the hill of Pizzofalcone; later refunded as Neapolis in the low area between the late 6th and early 5th century BC, it is considered among the major cities of Magna Graecia.
During its nearly three thousand years history, Naples will see a succession of long and numerous foreign domination, playing a prominent position in Italy and Europe.
Naples and the Neapolitan are often talked about, and often just to reiterate a long series of platitudes in which strengths and weaknesses remain broadly in balance: a beautiful city but dilapidated, picturesque but dirty, old but with too many modern buildings, generous hospitable but dangerous for the high criminality rate.
Attached to their land but with little sense of State, very gifted at singing and acting but don't like working, the Neapolitans seem to possess and amplify the defects and virtues of all Italians.
Many of these allegations are true, others are less so, but all have the defect of being prefabricated taking little account of the cultural and historical background that led Napoli to be what it is.
Festivals, events, folklore, crafts and cuisine are part of the tourist attractions of the city, which also contribute to its worldwide reputation.
