LAI Holidays can offer the 'personal touch' to your holiday. All too often holiday brochures limit your choice to ready-made 'packages'. Our approach is different; we offer advice based on personal experience, knowledge and complete flexibility in order to create an itinerary that suits your exact requirements, your options are endless, and the choices are all yours.

The Greek Panormos "all-port" was at the centre of the major Mediterranean routes, this central location not only facilitated the exchange of goods but cultures and peoples.

Palermo, today is a kaleidoscope showing with pride all the "bits" left from the people who lived here: Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Arabs, Normans, Swabians, Bourbons, to name a few.

Chaotic, messy, decadent, it always manages to amaze the visitor for the magnificence of its artistic treasures or for its gastronomy, a visit to Palermo means making a trip down the centuries in the footsteps of those who lived there.

San Vito Lo Capo is situated on the northwestern coast of Sicily about 2 hours driving from Palermo.

This charming seaside resort, enclosed in the bay between the Zingaro Nature Reserve to the west and Mount Cofano to the east, is one of the most famous places of summer holiday in Sicily, for the beauty of its beach.

The town, a traditional fishing village, developed around an old Saracen fort, subsequently turned into a sanctuary devoted to San Vito. Today the main activity is tourism. Its flower-adorned lanes, the fresh fish, the intense scents and its Caribbean panoramas will give you an unforgettable holiday just like its cuisine, with couscous as a first course and the original caldofreddo dessert.

Palermo Highlights

  • Capital for both the Arabs and the Normans, Palermo's monuments reflect the magnificence of two worlds: East and West that come together in clashing contrast
  • Anyone interested in Sicilian puppetry should not miss the Museo delle Marionette (website: www.museomarionettepalermo.it)
  • The beach of Mondello with its turquoise waters are just a short bus ride away
  • Try the famous pane con la milza (veal spleen sandwiches) at Antica Focacceria San Francesco, housed in an art nouveau building and serving local specialities
  • No trip to Palermo is complete without a night at the opera or ballet, not only for the Massimo's superb productions but also for the joy of seeing Palermitans in all their finery

San Vito Lo Capo Highlights

  • The white sandy beach and warm waters of San Vito Lo Capo are hard to beat.
  • Walk along the trails of the Zingaro Nature Reserve and enjoy the breathtaking blue and emerald green of the Mediterranean Sea
  • San Vito Cous Cous Fest  in September
A festival dedicated to North African gastronomy. Along with a range of couscous dishes, it features a rich entertaining programme, including fusion and global music concerts, wine tasting and workshops.
  • Excellent base for day trips to the Aegadian islands, the Greek ruins of Segesta and the medieval town of Erice
